Splendors and miseries of the metaverse: is a creative vision possible?

Following their Fisheye-Institut Français immersive writing residency in Arles in the summer of 2022, Filipe Vilas Boas and Marine Rouit-Leduc look back on their respective projects, creative explorations in immersive media and the metaverse. Their experiences provide an opportunity to consider the potential and limitations of these media: what uses can they be put to by artists? Beyond the trend, can virtual worlds and avatars become a new grammar for creators? Or are they just a technological pixie dust being pushed by GAFAM?
